WASHINGTON DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT HISTORY
The airport is named after John Foster Dulles, the 52nd Secretary of State who served under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Initially thought of as inconvenient due to its distance from town with few flights in the 1960s, by the 1970s Dulles became one of the main airports for non-stop long-distance flights from Europe.
