Air Passenger Duty: Private Jet Flight Tax

Air Passenger Duty (APD) applies to private jet passengers flying on aircraft with a take-off weight of 5.7 tonnes or more, flying from UK airports. New rates of APD on private jet flights were introduced on 1 April 2013.
APD is applied in "bands" depending on the weight and distance of the flight.
Here's the APD bands for private jet flights:
Miles from UK | Standard rate (Small & medium private jets) | Higher rate (Long range private jets with fewer than 19 seats) |
---|---|---|
Band A (0-2000) | £26 | £52 |
Band B (2001-4000) | £134 | £268 |
Band C (4001 – 6000) | £166 | £332 |
Band D (over 6000) | £188 | £376 |
How APD is paid on private jet charter flights

APD for private jet charterers is calculated by the private jet operator and included in the charter price of the flight.
Private flights on small or medium sized private jets will pay APD. However some small and Very Light Jets (VLJs) are exempt due to their lower weights - such as the popular Citation Mustang (weighing just 3.9 tonnes).
Private flights on larger private jets weighing 20 tonnes or more, but with less than 19 passengers pay a higher rates of APD, this includes aircraft such as the Challenger 300.
