How passengers pay for APD on private flights
The operator of the private flight includes APD payment in their flight quote to the customer.
Small and medium sized private jet passengers will pay APD at the standard rates. Depending on their weight some small and Very Light Jets (VLJs) are exempt from paying APD, this includes aircraft like the popular 4 seater Citation Mustang.
Larger private jets weighing above 20 tonnes with less than 19 passengers pay the higher rate of APD.
