Singapore Changi International Airport History

By the 1970’s passenger numbers at Singapore’s International Airport at Paya Lebar had grown so much that they were forced to expand or build a new airport at another location. After concerns that the existing airport was not located in the most appropriate place, in 1975 the government decided to build a new airport at the existing site of Changi Air Base and the airport in Paya Lebar would be converted for military use and known as the Paya Lebar Air Base. The new airport opened in 1981 and is known as Signapore Changi International Airport.
