OAKLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT HISTORY

Oakland International Airport opened in 1927. The airport has a significant place in history as it was the origin of Amelia Earhart’s last ever flight in 1937; the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. The airport became a military base in the 1940s for the U.S. involvement in the Second World War and later began to operate passenger flights after the war.
