History
Opened in 1933, as a civilian facility, Cornwall Newquay Airport soon became RAF Trebelzue with World War II taking full effect, supporting various other bases around Cornwall.
After it’s expansion in 1943 the air force base was renamed RAF Mawgan being one of the most powerful bases of the RAF and various squadrons based there.
Newquay Airport used to be one of the most important strategic bases for the US Air Force’s nuclear bombers in the cold war against Russia. Since 2009 the US Air Force has resigned this base.
In 2015 the airport was officially renamed as Cornwall Airport Newquay.
