The airport was built in 1929, and originally named Glenn H Curtiss Airport after the Long Island aviator. It was later renamed to North Beach Airport, then New York Municipal Airport, until finally settling on LaGuardia Airport.

New York LaGuardia Airport is scheduled for renovations, to be completed in 2021.
