History
The airport was first established in 1910. In the First World War, it became a military airport used as a base to help defend against German and Austro-Hungarian attacks.
During the Second World War, the United States Armed Forces took over the airport to assist in operations against Italy.
Commercial traffic started in 1950 and in the year 2013 the airport served over 5.4 million passengers.
