AIRPORT HISTORY
The Fort de France-Le Lamentin airport opens its doors in 1950, but its traffic remains limited for the first 10 years, in part due to the importance of maritime transport for the island’s economy at the time.
On December 17, 1965, in response to the growing demand for air transportation, the CCIM is awarded a contract for the management and development of the airport.
With the increased passenger trafic, the construction of a new airports starts in 1991 and its facilities are inaugurated on July 8, 1995 by a visit from the Concord.
In 2007, the airport is renamed after the author and politician Aimé Césaire.
Five years later, the SAMAC (Société Aéroportuaire Martinique Aime Cesaire is officially granted the right to manage the airport commercial operations for the next 30 years.
Last year, 6 506 private jet movements were recorded to and from Aime Cesaire Airport, a 19.6% increase compared to the previous year.

Located 7.5 miles away from Fort-de-France, Martinique airport is easily accessible by car (via the RN5 which crosses the whole island) in about 10 minutes from the city-centre.
