Los Angeles International Airport History
Mines Field was the name of the original airport that opened in 1930 and the name was officially changed to Los Angeles Airport in 1941.
The airport began a large expansion plan in 1981 in preparation for the 1984 Summer Olympics.
LAX is currently undergoing a huge renovation and improvement program to expand the Tom Bradley International Terminal to accommodate the growing number of visitors to the region and meet the demands of larger aircraft.
