Southend Airport first began life as an airfield formed by the Royal Flying Corps during World War I and was then known as RAF Rochford during World War II until it was decommissioned in 1947 and was known as Southend Municipal Airport. The municipal airport officially opened in 1935 and was rebranded in 1993 as London Southend Airport.
