History
Since the airport’s incorporation as a public limited company in July 1968, Kilarney Kerry Airport has undergone significant development to make it what it is today.
The airport’s first runway was built in 1969, measuring 1,090m x 23m. After its opening, the very first aircraft landed at Kerry Airport on the 25th of August in 1969. For several years after this first flight, only light private aircraft and occasional cargo flights used the aerodrome.
20 years later in 1989, a slightly larger second runway was built. The newest, third runway for Kerry Airport was completed in May 1994 and is Kerry’s largest runway to date, being 2,000m x 45m.
