SABIHA GÖKCEN AIRPORT HISTORY
Opened in 2003 to handle part of the Atatürk airport’s traffic, Sabiha Gökcen is also used for international flights. It has been named after the adoptive daughter of Atatürk, and the first female jet fighter pilot.
The airport has been extended in 2009 in order to deal with its increasing traffic. The new 34 500 ft. sq. modern terminal will eventually handle up to 25 million passengers a year.

The airport is located 31 miles southeast of Istanbul’s city centre. The TEM highway makes it easily accessible by car. Taxis are also available 24/7 on-site.
