DALLAS LOVE FIELD AIRPORT HISTORY
Dallas Love Field is named after Moss L. Love, who was the 10th fatality in US army aviation history in 1913. The airport began in 1917 for training prospective pilots after the United States entry into World War I. Love Field served as a base for flight training for the US Army Air Service until 1927 when Dallas purchased the airport and opened it for civilian use.
In 1963, after President Kennedy’s assassination, Vice President Lyndon Johnson was administered the Presidential Oath of Office aboard Air Force One at Love Field Airport.
