CHAMBERY AIRPORT HISTORY
The first airport built on-site was inaugurated in 1934 as a joint military and civilian facility. In 1950, the idea of developing the airport of Bourget-du-Lac was launched to attract visitors to the local ski resorts. However it wasn’t until 1960 that it began its commercial activity under the name of Chambéry-Aix-les-Bains.
From 1964 to July 1, 2004, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Savoie handled the airport’s operations before awarding the contract for its management and development to a privately owned joint venture held by Keolis and Vinci Airports.
Under the management of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Savoie, the airport and its facilities were gradually renovated, particularly in 1990 just before the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville.
The construction of a new terminal dedicated to private flights in 2006 has contributed to the significant increase in air traffic, with over 30,000 annual private aircraft movements now recorded at Chambéry Airport.
