Our judging panel of aviation, travel and photography experts - including some of the world's best aviation photographers - chose the winning images in The Private Jet Photography Awards 2013, from hundreds of global entries. The competition was launched to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first private jet flight, the Lear Jet in 1963.

Adam Twidell PrivateFly photo competition judge

Adam Twidell

Adam is PrivateFly's CEO and co-founder. Adam spent 10 years as a RAF pilot and then worked as a private jet pilot.

While flying private jets Adam saw an opportunity to transform a fragmented private jet charter market, and PrivateFly was born.

As CEO of PrivateFly Adam is frequently to be found at airports, visiting private jet operators and private jets on the PrivateFly charter network.

Alan Capel 2013 PrivateFly photography judge

Alan Capel

Alan Capel is Head of Content at Alamy, the web's largest stock photography site. He is responsible for Alamy’s images and the recruitment and management of the contributors who provide them. He is a regular speaker at photography industry events and also sits on the board of PACA (Picture Archive Council of America).

Alan has worked in the picture industry for over 20 years. Whilst working as a freelance cartoonist he stumbled across the world of stock and, except for a brief sojourn trying to sell expensive photographic art on the Internet, has been there ever since.

Caroline Metcalfe 2013 PrivateFly photography judge

Caroline Metcalfe

Caroline Metcalfe has worked at Conde Nast Traveller magazine since its launch in 1997. She had previously worked on national newspaper magazines such as The Observer, The Independent and The Financial Times each of which won international acclaim for the commissioning and use of photography. 

She came to the world of Travel photography as a novice. In the 15 years since Traveller launched, the magazine has won countless awards for its distinctive photography, covering lifestyle, food and drink, portraiture, interiors and stunning locations and landscapes.

Caroline has worked with some of the best-known photographers in the world and has also spent much of her professional career encouraging new talent.

Craig Easton PrivateFly photo competition judge

Craig Easton

Craig Easton is an internationally renowned photographer and the recipient of the Cutty Sark Award for Worldwide Travel Photographer of the Year 2012.

He shoots for editorial and advertising clients worldwide and his prints are widely collected by private individuals and corporations.

In addition to his commissioned work, Craig shoots long term personal projects and with author Brigid Benson recently published the highly acclaimed 52 Weekends by the Sea and 52 Weekends in the Country.

Jessica Ambats 2013 PrivateFly photography judge

Jessica Ambats

Jessica Ambats is an award-winning air-to-air photographer and an instrument-rated private pilot based in Santa Monica, California. She is editor of Plane & Pilot, a monthly magazine devoted to personal aviation. 

Her aviation photography has been featured internationally on magazine and book covers, and she was awarded the top designation of "Best of the Best" by Aviation Week & Space Technology.

When she's not taking photos of airplanes, Jessica is flying them. She is an instrument-rated pilot with a seaplane rating and tailwheel endorsement.

Manfred Zollner 2013 PrivateFly photography judge

Manfred Zollner

Managing Editor & Director of Photography of German fotoMAGAZIN and the fine art issue fotoMAGAZIN EDITION. 

Manfred Zollner is a photography critic since 1991, has been editor in chief of the bi-monthly Photo Technik International between 2004 and 2007 and is managing editor of the German monthly fotoMAGAZIN since 2007. 

He is a regular juror at international events like the Red Bull Illume Contest or the Travel Photographer of the Year and a reviewer at photography festivals like FotoFest Houston or the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles.

Nick Meers 2013 PrivateFly photography judge

Nick Meers

Nick has been shooting travel pictures professionally for over 25 years.

His love of flying has taken him on many adventures in tiny airports from Alaska to New Zealand to Senegal to the Virgin Islands, and is no stranger to leaning out of helicopters with a camera, flying through the Golden Gate bridge, extinct volcanoes in Hawaii and over marsh elephants in West Africa.

Paul Bowen 2013 PrivateFly photography judge

Paul Bowen

Paul Bowen, a commercial photographer based in Wichita, Kansas, is credited with over 1,000 magazine covers and countless advertising campaigns. Paul was one of the original photographers who made up Canon’s elite Explorers of Light team.

In 2008, the International Society for Aviation Photography, awarded Paul The Award of Excellence, their highest honor, for “a lifetime of outstanding contributions to aviation photography”.

His four aviation coffee-table books and annual calendar, have gained critical acclaim.

Tom Mackie

Tom Mackie is recognised as one of the world’s finest landscape photographers, his affinity for light, perspective and colour the hallmark that has established his reputation both internationally and here in the UK.

A photographer all his working life, in 1985 he moved from his native US to the UK to pursue a full-time career as a landscape photographer.

Tom Mackie has published several inspirational books, is a regular contributor to photography magazines and runs a series of acclaimed photography workshops in spectacular locations both in the UK and abroad.

Alud Davies

Alud Davies

Alud has been a aviation enthusiast and photographer for over 25 years and his passion has seen him travel the world several times over in search of exotic and unusual business jets, although latterly he has focused on photographing the ever expanding business jet fleets in Asia.

Alud's passion for business jets extends further than just photographing aircraft though, as he is the owner of the business aviation website BizJetBlogger.com, where he regularly receives photo submissions for inclusion on the website.
