History
In 1910 Louis Paulhan landed his Farman biplane in Manchester becoming the first person to fly from person to fly from London to Manchester.
In the late 1920’s early 1930’s Manchester opened Wythenshaw Airport (a temporary airfield) and Barton Aerodrome.
During the mid-1930’s it was decided that Barton Aerodrome was unsuitable and a new airport was to be built.
Construction first began on Manchester Airport (previously named Ringway Airport) in November 1935 with work completed in June 1938.
The new airport opened in 1938 and named Ringway Airport, before changing to Manchester International Airport and then to Manchester Airport.
