Glasgow Prestwick Airport History
Glasgow Prestwick Airport was originally only a field used by a few small planes, dating back to around 1913. Pre-war, the field was used as a training airfield and swiftly after, more land was acquired and a hangar, control tower and other small buildings were developed.
The airport began to grow during World War II as it was used for the delivery of American Aircraft. After the war, the airport was expanded with a new terminal building and runway extension, as well as a new control tower and was officially opened in 1964 enabling the airport to handle many more passengers than before.
